Cold, Hard Guacamole Facts

Do you remember this post ? It was ages ago that we introduced a new feature for our blog: The Avocado Challenge. Our intent was to try several guacamole recipes and report back to you about which we preferred.

This picture was taken on the one and only day that we "tested" guacamole. We engaged four "chefs" to whip up a green avocado dip and then we ate. We discussed the merits of some and the detractions of others. We never did it again.

Here is the cold, hard truth: we like OUR guacamole too much to mess with it. After testing four recipes, we didn't have the heart or desire to ever change from our tried and true again. We tried things like no salt, lemon vs lime, cheese, and even a splash of tequila.

Our best guacamole is: avocado, fresh lime, tomato, onion, fresh garlic, salt, pepper. The consistency we like is not too smooth and not too chunky. In a pinch, fresh lemon can be used instead of lime. Have I mentioned lime...lots of lime.

Herbs Part 1

Welcome to our herb garden! We had a successful plant buying excursion a couple of weeks ago, and this is what we have to show for it:

New Feature Coming Soon

We aren't going to dress this post up with frilliness - this is just too important to sugar coat.

We are here to introduce a new multi post feature: The Avocado Challenge (but we affectionately refer to it as "eating guacamole as if we are getting paid to do so").

We are going to enjoy make various guacamole recipes and rate them here on the blog. Did we prefer lemon or lime, smooth or chunky, red or yellow onion, California Style, Guacamole Auténtico and more!

To kick things off, and to let you know if you didn't already, avocados are a Super Hero Fruit. They are chock full of nutrients and also help your body absorb nutrients from other foods.  When you read the nutrition label, don't be too scared by the monounsaturated fat: this fat helps to lower your bad cholesterol, raise your good cholesterol, and can aid in weight loss!

Let the taste test begin!
